Job Description

Looking for a dedicated and experienced Human Resources Officer to support the effective management of labour relations, performance management systems, and employment equity initiatives. This role plays a key part in maintaining compliance with labour legislation while fostering a positive and productive workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Labour Relations

  • Interpret and implement labour legislation and collective agreements.

  • Investigate and respond to employee grievances in line with labour policies.

  • Advise management on disciplinary procedures, work practice changes, and labour relations matters.

  • Act as a communication link between management and bargaining unit representatives.

  • Identify labour relations challenges and recommend solutions.

  • Participate in wage negotiations where required.

  • Ensure organisational notice boards comply with South African labour legislation.

Performance Management

  • Oversee the implementation of the organisation’s performance appraisal system.

  • Ensure all employees have up-to-date job descriptions and performance agreements.

  • Support the development and integration of core competencies, values, and performance indicators.

  • Train managers and staff on performance management systems and processes.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of performance improvement plans.

Employment Equity

  • Support the implementation of the Employment Equity Plan.

  • Coordinate Employment Equity Committee meetings and maintain meeting records.

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual Employment Equity reports.

  • Ensure Employment Equity information is updated on organisational notice boards.

HR Operations

  • Conduct employee induction programmes.

  • Coordinate medical aid administration.

  • Support the Senior Manager: Human Resources in supervising HR functions.

  • Maintain accurate HR records and audit employee files regularly.


Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Human Resources or equivalent qualification.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a generalist Human Resources role.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in labour relations.

  • 1 year supervisory experience.

  • Experience with Sage 300 will be an added advantage.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong people management and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of South African labour legislation including BCEA, EEA, SDA, and LRA.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Strong presentation and training skills.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong attention to detail and deadline orientation.
